Benefits of Healthy Living

The benefits of good and healthy living start with physical and mental training.Good health produces a longer and a happier life. People must take care of their health. Healthy eating and involvement in some sport often help an individual to maintain a good level of health. A person who becomes newly conscious of his or her health will benefit from avoiding stressful situations. People like a strong, healthy and beautiful body. The trend of physical fitness spreads and gains more and more popularity each year. Physical activity every day for at least 20 minutes ensures active thinking, working with a better disposition, and gaining control of one’s life. Physical action and movement prolongs one’s life. Regular activity and a balanced diet always increase one’s health. Alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, and coffee should be avoided because these items are detrimental. Consistent involvement in an activity in which one enjoys can be a fulfilling experience. As an athlete myself, I can attest that too much exercise can be a burden in which one does not enjoy. When exercising on a regular basis, we collect results, see our improvement, and become encouraged to exercise more. In corporate business employees sit at their chairs most of the day and do not exercise. Because of this fact, many workers become overweight, lazy, and unmotivated. Studies prove that a fit employee achieves longer hours of work and greater success with clients and human relations. This fact becomes true when each individual employee feels happy with his or her body. His or her mind will follow the body’s example and, in turn, this will improve the appearance and attitude. With a healthy body, one increases endurance throughout the day. Employees accomplish more tasks at work and experience less fatigue.
Recent study measured the eating habits of average Americans. Based on this study of individual eating habits, people do not pay attention to their diet and eat unhealthy food. Men eat less food when under stress, while stressed women eat more sweet and bland foods, rather than salty ones. In this study, men and women were placed into either a stressed condition or control condition with a variety of food in the laboratory. The stressed group was told that they were to perform a speech after lunch. The control group was put into a natural setting. They listened to a passage of emotionally neutral text. They were told to relax, while sitting, and were told that they would receive a meal at a specified time later. The types of foods that were laid out for the participants represented three different categories: sweet, salty, and bland.
The experimenters separated thirty-four foods into low and high fat groups. (Richard Slusny, 1994). The participants ate freely for fifteen minutes, as allotted by the experiment. The test conductors weighed the food before and after the meals to see exactly how much food the participants ate. The timing was also well planned. The well-planned timing of the experiment took place around lunchtime. At the end of the study, the experimenters asked the participants to rate the stressfulness of the study. Nurses measured the blood pressure and heart rate of the participants to ensure that the participants were under some sort of stress. These nurses applied the same procedure to the control group to ensure these participants were free of stress. The experimenters then asked the participants to grade the photo of each of the thirty-four foods. They were then asked to rate from their appetite for each food in the photo at that moment. The participants rated the food after the stress tests and before the meal. The photos appeared in random order to make sure that the more appetizing foods were not placed one after the other. The participants, as required by the experiment, stated how much they liked a certain food on a scale of one to four. The stressed eaters ate sweeter high-fat foods and a higher energy mean than unstressed eaters. This leads experimenters to believe that stress can damage one’s health because of the unhealthy foods the stressed person would eat. Stress negatively affects a person’s mental and physically being. The choice of energy-providers, or food, makes it worse when unhealthy foods are chosen. In conclusion, stress is bad for one’s health. As stated above, a person should avoid stressful situations because stress leads to an unbalanced diet and unhealthy living. Active thinking, a better attitude at work, and gaining control in one’s life results from exercise. Medical authorities today agree on the harmful effects of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Everyone should attempt to exercise and eat healthy to accommodate and improve his or her physical condition and state of mind.

Cause and Effect Essay – The Causes of Divorce
From the past to present, people all over the world have determined to live together, which is called “get marriage” in another word, so that they depend on for living each other. Nevertheless, some couples are unable to maintain their relationship; therefore they choose divorce, which is one of the solutions to cope with problems between husband and wife. Furthermore, most people think carefully before they get marriage. However, the divorce rates trend to continually increase nowadays, thus it might be argued that divorces can be taken place easier than the past. There are three main causes of divorce: changing woman’s roles, stress in modern living and lack of communication, which are highlighted below. The first significant cause of recent rise in the rates of divorce is that women completely change in roles. In the past, men have to earn whole money to afford the expense of family, whereas woman only do housework, hence women have no money leading to depend on husbands’ money. Because of these situations, it is too difficult for most women to separate from their husbands. Nonetheless, these situations entirely change nowadays. The equality between men and women in roles are very clear at the moment, thus women can work outside to earn money, while men share the household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, washing as well as caring for children. It can be clearly seen that women are independent from money as they can earn money by themselves to support their living cost. Accordingly, the divorce rates recently rise. Another cause to confirm the recent increase in divorce rates is stress in modern living. Many people, who live in globalisation, have considerable pressures to earn money. It can be obviously seen that the stress has occurred since they are children. For instance, in Thailand, students generally want to go to famous school so that they take advantage to go to well-known universities. Studying in celebrated universities mostly causes having a good opportunity to find a job or earn a lot of money. This circumstance not only happens in Thailand, but also occurs in many countries. Some people are laid off from their companies; consequently the stress occurs in their family, which leads to divorce. Some families can earn money, but inadequate for covering their expenses, therefore it is easy to think about divorce. Nevertheless, the rates of unemployment trend to continually increase as a result the divorce rates can also rise. It is no doubt that the stress in modern living may lead to recently increasing divorce rates. The final cause of recently increasing divorce is lack of communication. Owing to financial status in each family, many people are fairly busy. For this reason, they have inadequate time to talk to the problems with their partners, which produces the likelihood of divorce. Some couples are often quiet when they have problems each other, as a consequence little problems can be expanded to probably become huge problems, resulting in divorce. It is quite clear that the more communications are used, the more divorce rates are reduced. Although, these three cause of the recent rise in divorce rates are expressed above, there are also two effects of the recent increase of divorce rates: negative effects and positive effects Firstly, the effects of recent enlargement in divorce rates are negative effects. Most couples normally have children when they get marriage. Accordingly, divorces can directly effect on children. Children living in single parent families are more probably to get pregnant as teenagers, drop out of high school, abuse drugs and have aggressively emotional and behavioural problems, which lead to social problems. Some children decide to go out of their home when their parents separate each other, and subsequently they become homeless children. They do not have good opportunities to find a job due to shortage of education. Consequently, crime may likely be the end result. These are significantly negative effects of recent expansion in divorce rates. Secondly, on the other hand, another effects of rise in divorce rates are positive effects. People, who divorce by consent from their partners, want to have better quality of life, since they are unhappy with their spouses. Accordingly, they can work efficiently, which results from fine mental condition. They not only have more free time to do many things, but also free from their spouses’ murmurs. In addition, divorces also get rid of the violence of quarrel between husband and wife, hence everybody in family get better in physical and mental healthy, particularly for children. These are the advantageous effects of increasing divorce rates. In conclusion, a family is one of the important parts of society, thus many people had better aware of the significance of relationship in family. At the moment, divorce have become the substantial problem because of changing women’s roles, stress in modern living and lack of communication. Nevertheless, there are also the two different ways in effects, which are negative and positive effects. Some couples, which have no children, divorce by consent, therefore divorce should be good solution for couples to deal with this problem. On the other hand, some couples having children in their family should think deliberatively before they end their marriage in divorce; otherwise innocent children probably become victims for this situation. Although people trend to think carefully before they get marriage, the rates of divorce continuously rise nowadays.

So the wirter encourage us to speak up when we notice these unethical practices taking place.

Title:Cheating

School systems today are so lenient in their rules, guidelines and consequences; thus causing cheating, copying or forgeries to be frequently used. Many students take (present tense/point of view-Third person)advantage of copying someone else's work whenever they are given the chance. Other times, students will simply have someone else do their work and turn it in as their own, not realizing the effects this behavior can create. This creates a lack of creativity, no sense of responsibility and the students will never acquire new knowledge. (Three effects)These practices of cheating, copying and forgery by students are unethical and should be brought to the surface whenever possible.
Students that copy other student's work are hurting themselves in the long run. Their creativity level drops every time they copy or have someone else do their work. (Topic sentence+immediate effect)After a while of copying and forging, the student's ability to think creatively and successfully becomes next to nothing. "Educators must continue to socialize students of all ages about the importance of maintaining high ethical standards," (Glazer 222). The educational system is where students learn these tricks and proceed to carry them on into there professional careers. Corners are too easy to cut these days, and in order for people to keep their minds as functional as possible, they need to do their own work. It is too easy for students to buy a students paper(Supporting details )that had the same class the quarter before, reword it a little, and turn it in as their own. Students are no longer able to write a fictional story by themselves because the computer or someone else can do it for them.(Concluding sentence)
Students also begin to lose the sense of responsibility when they have other people do their work. (Topic sentence+proximate effect)They don't feel that they have to do anything to pass a class, only that as long as they turn in a paper, their thoughts or not, they will receive credit for the assignment along with a passing grade. This creates the feeling that life will always be a handed to them on a silver platter. (Supporting details ) This type of thinking is what is going into the work environment when these people leave the education system. Employers don't want workers that can't pull their own weight, and that is all they are going to get from these people that think cutting corners is all right. Even worse is when these people that "cut the corners" hold management positions. These "crooked managers" infringe on the ethical workers by asking them to do unethical practices on the job, such as asking their factory workers to pretend they didn't see the failing scores from the health and safety inspections. Thanks to "ethical resisters" some of these unethical practices are being brought to the surface, exposed and corrected.(Concluding sentence)
Along with losing their creativity, the students that copy other's work never get to feel that sense of accomplishment that comes when the paper you have been working on is finally complete.(Topic sentence)They don't get the uplifting feeling when they get their paper back and they have received a good score. The feeling isn't there because the work isn't their own. They use other people to receive the score, but they feel nothing. If they never have that feeling, there is nothing to motivate these people to do better the next time around.(Concluding sentence) Yet, there may be one thing that is the worst of all when people pass off someone else's work as their own. That would be that the forger doesn't gain any knowledge.(Topic sentence+remote effect) People can only learn from the things they do, and if someone else is doing their work, they are never going to learn anything. Making mistakes and learning from them may be one of the most effective methods of learning. (Supporting details )For instance, if a student performs extremely poorly on a very important paper, chances are that student will always remember what they did wrong and what would have been better, where as the same student wont even remember the lecture that was taught for an entire week straight. If people don't do the work themselves, they can never learn from their mistakes.(Concluding sentence)These people that cheat will go through life expecting someone else to always be there to do their work. When the time comes that they will actually have to do the work themselves, they aren't going to have a clue on where to start. They won't know to take responsibility for the things they do and they will never be able to think something up on their own. They will be so used to simply grabbing someone else's work that they will fail at anything they try to accomplish themselves. These people need to be stopped not only for their sake but because it is not fair to the people whose work they are always stealing. People work hard and should receive credit for the things the do, the people that don't work hard, should not receive credit. We must reward the "ethical resisters" that are brave enough to speak up when they notice these unethical practices taking place.(Concluding sentence) "For ethical resisters are, indeed, the heart of a national resolve for individual responsibility on behalf of the common good" (Glazer 225).

Car trouble can be a problem if the car is not taken care of properly. Violence can be the consequence of picking up the wrong kind of person. Lucky Miller is a 24 years old, part-time cab driver who explains how driving a cab has many different effects his life and health.

"Interesting, live and colorful people," as Lucky would say, ride in his cab; as a result Lucky meets many of them. One woman he picked up claimed her countrymen were being held captive on the O'Hare landing strip, and she would like to go there. He thought she was sort of wacky and knew she wouldn't stay in the cab. He told her he could only take her as far as the terminal gate. "That's not good enough," she told Lucky as she hoped out. Lucky often drives businessman to work, he discovered that they do not like to talk that much, it disturbs them. They are usually involved with their policies or whatever they are trying to work on or sell. Younger females do not like to engage in talk either. Lucky thinks they have a fear, which is not talking to strange men. As a result of this, Lucky does not start conversations very often, he waits for his passengers to initiate anything.

Violence is a problem that always lurks in the back of a cab driver's mind. Since a driver can not fully tell if a person is good or bad, they are never quite sure whom to pick up. One time Lucky picked up a man, who was wearing a nice shirt and slacks, who did not look like a threat at all. They had an amiable conversation the whole trip. The man started talking to Lucky, therefore he did not think anything of the conversation. When they reached their destination, the man pulled a gun on Lucky, and said "give me your money or I'll kill you." This was an eye opener for Lucky, which changed his attitude about whom he would or would not pick up.

Conditions of the cabs were consequently not always in the best of shape. The part-time drivers were usually the ones who got stuck with the worst cars. Many of the cars had low breaks, bald tires and bad valves, because of this the cars were dangerous to transport passengers. It could cause an accident and someone could get seriously hurt. The cab company owners did not do anything about the cabs until they broke down about five or six times. They did not care about the cars or the drivers, they thought of them both as machines.

Bad health conditions can be the result of being a cab driver. Since cabs usually stay within the city limits, they are always among the traffic. City driving is slow and very nerve wracking, which can lead to ulcers and even heart attacks. Drivers sometimes get stressed from people yelling at them. The ventilation system within the cabs are located directly behind the engine; therefore the driver is constantly breathing in his own car's fumes. Plus he breathes in exhaust from other cars and trucks. Lucky thinks driving a cab tends to shorten you life span if you do it on an on going basis or for a career.

Driving a cab has many different effects. Meeting many interesting people, not knowing what they will be like, having car and health problem are some of the effects of this occupation. I think being a cab driver would be hard. It would be scary and would require a person to be tough. They would have to know how to handle any and all situations that came upon them and solutions to get through them safely.

Essay

Getting Sober

To recognize that they have drinking problems, alcoholics have to be completely miserable and willing to change. When they get to this point, it is called their "bottom." There are "high bottom" and "low bottom" drunks, but it doesn't matter as long as they get sober. There are many different reasons why an alcoholic decides to get sober, but in my own case, I lost my self-esteem, I couldn't control my drinking, and my life became unmanageable.

The first thing that made me think about getting sober was that I lost my self-esteem. I always used to cut myself down in front of people and never knew how to accept compliments- sure signs of low self-esteem. The biggest symptom I had of low self-esteem was that I wasn't comfortable in my own skin or around people unless I was drunk because the only way I could stand myself was when I drank. I also never cared about my appearance, so I wouldn't wear make-up, fix my hair, or bathe regularly. Still, low self-esteem was something I would never have guessed I had-that is, until I thought about killing myself. Then I knew something might be wrong.

The second thing that made me want to get sober was the realization that I couldn't control my drinking-it had become a mental and physical obsession. Since my first drink at the age of twelve I couldn't go a day without a drink, and I could never have just one. By the age of seventeen I was used to drinking a case and a half of beer a day, and for the next two years I lived in a drunken fog. I could not go to school, work, or anywhere else outside my front door without a drink or the promise of one. I finally realized something had to be done when I couldn't get a drink one day and swallowing my own spit made me violently sick. I was forced to drink NyQuil to keep from throwing up because it was the only alcohol in the house.

But the main reason I got sober was that my life became unmanageable. The first thing that made me notice I was out of control was getting kicked out of high school two weeks before graduation. During and after high school I also totaled three cars while driving drunk. In college things didn't get any better. I had a boyfriend who robbed houses, as well as me, so cops came to my house looking for him. Finally I realized that something had to change when I started waking up in places and didn't know where I was or how I had gotten there.

Getting sober is usually the last thing an alcoholic wants to do. Practicing alcoholics always have low self-esteem, can't control their drinking, and have unmanageable lives, but sobriety always helps remedy these problems. I have been sober for two and a half years, and I could never imagine going back to the way I lived before.

The Effects of Sun on Skin such as Cancer, etc.

Sun Effects The Skin

Since 1980s, that we have started hearing how bad the sunlight can be for the skin and it is surprising to see millions of people still lying on the beach every summer, or working out in the sun from days to days.

In United States, more than 600,000 cases of skin cancer were been reported in 1999, most of them caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Can you believe that? Around 30,000 of these cases will be the most dangerous kind of cancer, called melanoma, a kind of skin cancer which is directly related to exposure to the sun, and approximately 6,500 people will die from it. These kinds of statistics should really make us a big impact of the dangers of the sunlight. Also, about one out of every six people will develop some form of skin cancer and more than 90 percent of those cases will be directly related to exposure to the sun.

Who is most likely to suffer from the most serious form of skin cancer? There are three major factors that raise a person's risk of getting melanoma.

Firstly, there is a hereditary factor. Hereditary factors are factors we are born with- our general genetic makeup, such as our skin and hair color. In general, light-skinned, light-eyed people of northern European background are most likely to suffer from skin cancer. These people often have red or blond hair. In contrast, dark-haired Caucasians, Asians, and Hispanics suffer less from this disease, and dark-skinned people are 50 times less likely than light-skinned people to get skin cancer.

Secondly, it is the environmental factor. Where we live seems to influence our chances of contracting the disease. Geography has the direct relationship with skin cancer. The further away, north or south, of the equator you are, the less likely you are to get skin cancer because the sunlight are not directly overhead, but instead hit the Earth at a softer angle. For example, someone who lives in southern Florida, where is fairly near the equator, is more likely to contract this disease than someone who lives in Alaska, where the sunlight are never directly overhead. This means that the rays take longer to reach the Earth, so the ozone layer of the Earth's atmosphere is able to stop more of the sun's dangerous ultraviolet light. One interesting topic I read recently that a comparison showed that Japanese who live in Hawaii are 88 times more likely to get skin cancer than Japanese living in Japan. That shows pretty clear a difference in geography does increase the risk of contracting skin cancer.

So far we have one hereditary and one environmental factor.

The third factor is a behavioral factor...the history of the person...the amount of exposure to the sun that the person has had from birth. In general, we can say that getting sunburned frequently and severely early in our lives can have negative consequences later on. This means that we need to ensure that parents are educated about the dangers of this problem, so that they can try to keep their children protected. Also, that means that certain kind of outdoor-jobs will put a person at greater risk.

Well, we've described the problem and some of factors that contribute to the rise of skin of skin cancer, but just what can we do to improve this situation? Now, I will talk on one of the simplest way to protect us from the sun.

For one thing, probably the most important breakthrough in sun protection and the best advice that we can offer to the public is this: use sunscreen lotion. It is simple to use sunscreen. A SPF of at least 15 is recommended. SPF means "sun protection factor." What does that SPF 15 mean? SPF 15 means that the skin takes 15 times longer to burn than with no lotion. If you get mild sunburn after 20 minutes under the sun, an SPF 15 allows you to remain in the sun about 300 minutes. The higher the number, the more the protection.

The next piece of advice is to put on the sunscreen lotion should be applied about 30 minutes before lengthy exposure to the sun because the skin takes that long to absorb the protective lotion.

Finally, we have to pay attention to sensitive areas that are easy to miss when we put on sunscreen, such as our ears, neck, lips, nose, and head. These places on our face and head tend to be missed and, as they are hit by the sun very directly and they can be burn quickly.

Conclusion

While our skin has been suffering from the sun everyday, we should know the basic knowledge to protect ourselves. I am sure that you do not want see a single freckled when you look the minor; I am sure that you do not want to see the word "skin cancer" at your medical report.

Jerome, Richard. " Disarming the Rage " People 4 June 2001: 54-61.

In recent years, the number of school shootings has been unbelievably on the rise. School children are leaving the safe environment of their homes to trudge off to school carrying the heavy fear for their safety right along with their backpacks. In what has been a shocking wake up call to parents and school administrators, many of the recent acts of school violence have been attributed to retaliation by the victims of school bullying. The effects of being tormented by a school bully are far reaching and can range from the simple daily dread of going to school, to feelings of depression and isolation, and even to premeditated acts of retaliatory violence.
The effects of facing a school bully can begin with the simple dread of going to school each day. According to the National Education Association, 160,000 children skip school each day because of intimidation by their peers (Jerome 61). It is sad to think that these innocent children are singled out by school bullies because of their appearance or perceived weaknesses. These students carry the constant fear of being harassed by others for being overweight, short, bespectacled or having speech impediments. Victims of bullies fear being injured by their tormenters because they are usually overtly anxious and insecure with their classmates anyway. As the teasing and harassment continues, these abused victims carry the fear home with them and can begin to have nightmares which then carries the effects further.
Being the constant victim of a school bully will eventually have an emotional impact on a child’s well being. These children usually have so many other issues in their lives that adversely affect how they see themselves. Consequently, their self-esteem is usually very low and the fear and hopelessness they experience daily only makes it worse. These victims can begin to suffer from emotional distress, depression and isolation. Even though they may see others like them being victimized also, they feel that no one can truly understand they pain they live with daily. As the harassment continues and even progresses, the victim of this schoolyard abuse may begin to feel rage toward his aggressors.
Continuing to endure the cruelty doled out by the school bully can trigger the victim to resort to some sort of retaliation. Some victims have become so despondent and fearful that they have taken their own lives in an effort to end their pain. One over-weight student who had been teased for years by the popular or athletic kids committed suicide in front of a crowded classroom. This was his form of retaliation without physically hurting anyone else. However, as the nation has watched the number of incidents of school shootings increase, the death toll of innocent bystanders continues to climb accordingly. There have been cases where a victim has been pushed beyond his limit, finds a weapon, and pursues the particular aggressors who have tormented him for years. Yet, there are more cases where the once powerless victims find dominance behind guns and bombs and randomly vent their rage at any students or teachers in their path.
Parents, school administrators and police departments have been forced to take a look at the big picture when investigating why this senseless violence continues to happen in our neighborhood schools. They can no longer bury their heads in the sand as sensitive, mild mannered students are bullied beyond fear into emotionally charged rage ultimately exploding into retaliatory violence. The exposure to this carnage is taking a toll on the innocence of the youth in America.

Three Types of Dieters
A sad fact in American society is that thousands of people search for the elusive dream of being thin. On any given day, one finds neighbors, friends, and relatives on some kind of diet. Dieters assume various disguises, but the noteworthy ones are the "bandwagoneer," the "promiser" and the "lethal loser." Everyone wants to lose weight quickly and effortlessly; therefore, any fad diet promising overnight results becomes the new "call" of the "bandwagoneer." She tries the grapefruit diet or the watermelon diet, but she decides her stomach cannot possibly deal with all of that fruit. The next day the television advertises a new wonder pill that allows the user to lose up to ten pounds in one week, and the "bandwagoneer" answers the "call." Although the magic pill does not produce the desired weight loss, she never gives up hope for a new "wagon" to hitch onto. Once again, this dieter is lured by advertisements of instant spot reduction--liposuction. She crosses over the safety line into a danger zone of unknown procedures, performed by unqualified physicians. Some dieters lose their lives in the search for a beautiful body. The stomach staple is another dieting tool that dieters try. The staple yields a large weight loss, but the dieter endangers her health because of excess loss of body fluids. The "bandwagoneer" is always listening for the newest cure on the dieting market. A family wedding or a special dance is a logical reason for a woman to decide it is time to take off her few, unwanted pounds; however, decisions made in haste are hard to keep, and the "promiser" soon fails in her attempt. She is the dieter with only fifteen pounds to lose, and, as each year flies by, she decides dieting is harder than eating what she wants to, and much less fun! She promises to lose the extra weight for her ten-year class reunion, but her weight-loss pledge is not kept. Some women become "promisers" during their pregnancies, and they broadcast to all within hearing distance that they will lose the extra pounds as soon as the baby is born. The "tomorrow promiser" and the "Monday promiser" are the dieters with whom most people are familiar and whose excuses they know. The "promisers" are always starting their diets tomorrow, after one last, scrumptious dinner--their favorite meal of course! The "Monday promiser" can last through lunch, but by dinner she cannot take her hunger pains any longer. She decides there is always another Monday; furthermore, she eats all week, like a bear preparing for winter hibernation, in preparation for her Monday fast. One is not fooled by the "promiser" but saddened that her attempts at weight loss are unsuccessful. The most tragic dieters in American society are the "lethal losers," young women following a self-destructive path. Characteristically, this dieter is a young woman with low self-esteem from a middle income family . While in her teens, the young lady decides to shed some unwanted pounds, and, much to her surprise, she loses the extra weight quickly. She attends a party with friends, overeats on junk food and decides to "rid" her body of the excess food by purging in the bathroom; thus the "deceiver" is born. From that moment on, she thinks she is in control of her "new found" diet, but the ultimate "deceiver" is her diet. She sneaks large quantities of food for midnight snacks, and she does not care what she eats, only that she satisfies the yearning deep inside her soul. She faces the beginning of the downward turn of her diet--the binge and purge cycle. Ultimately she loses touch with reality and is treated by a physician in a hospital. The "deceiver" has a companion who is, much like herself, another deadly player in the dieting game. This dieter analyzes the calorie content of every morsel of food on her dinner plate and decides whether or not to eat it; usually she does not, but quietly excuses herself from the table to return to her room. She has lost all sense of the value of food for her body, and she cannot see what she has become--a "sad scarecrow." A scarecrow gains nourishment from her straw stuffing, and the "sad scarecrow" needs food to hold her body together. But this dieter cannot see the "straw" she leaves on the ground when she turns her head away from food; she is beyond all reasoning. Innocently enough, the "deceiver" and "sad scarecrow" start their diets with good intentions; however, along the way some mechanism is triggered, and the "lethal losers" are awakened; their lives are never the same. All dieters share a common goal, losing weight, but they approach the goal from many different sides. The importance of the dieting game is not the goal, but how one decides to get there. The dieter can choose life or death in her quest for a thin body.

Essay

Classification of Friends
Ever since I was a child, my mother raised me to recognize and appreciate various kinds of friends. There are three different kinds of friends in this life. I classify them according to how well I know them and how well they know me. We encounter each of them everyday, whether in school, home, or at the gym. However, we rarely spend much time actually thinking about and classifying these people. First, there are the "pest friends"- general acquaintances. Next, there are "guest friends"- social partners. Lastly, we have "best friends"- our true friends.
The first type of friend is simply an acquaintance. This means that you basically only know their name. You might not even remember what they look like if you go away for a short vacation. Usually, you meet these type of friends in school, at work, on the bus, in the gym, or anywhere else you might be. You normally would not mind having a cup of coffee with them, but if anything else came up, you usually would have no problem parting company .You normally don’t miss them when they are elsewhere. It is also this type of friends who give you the most amount of aggravation. Since most of the time you are placed in a position where you have to act friendly, such as school or work, you would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something aggravating, such as tapping the fingers an a table or chewing gum loudly. This is why I call them "pest friends."
The second category of friends I call "social partners." This is because they are closer than acquaintances, but no where near as close as a true friend. Social partners are usually acquaintances who evolve into "guest friends" through increased extracurricular activities. You know their name, a little of what they like or dislike, a little of their family history, and usually have several things in common. As the saying goes, "Birds of a feather flock together," so too the social partners have to have several things in common with you. No one is going to want to spend any more time than necessary with somebody completely opposite and aggravating to him. Keep in mind, though, that the biggest thing that distinguishes a "best friend" from a "guest friend" is the fact that "guess friends" usually don’t converse about anything substantial or deep, such as their innermost desires and fears. Usually, "guest friends" toy to keep the topic of conversation happy and light. They would not open up to you how they are really feeling. They are still preoccupied with "saving face." You still do enjoy hanging out with them. But when the going gets tough, they are not there for you.
The last type of friend is the "best friend." Normally, you know them the longest. You probably grew up together as children. He or she knows everything about you. Likewise, you know everything about him or her. They are basically like family. You would have no problem if they spent the night at your house. You know each others quirks and habits and can always tell when there is something wrong. You would not hesitate to share your deepest feelings or thoughts with them. "A true friend will see you through when others see that you are through." A true friend has no problem correcting you when you are wrong, or being stern with you when you are out of line. Likewise, a true friend will love you like a member of his own family. He will always be there for you. They are not perfect, but at least they will always look out for you and never do anything intentionally to hurt you.
On a final note, I would like to take some time to say that we should always remember keep in mind what kind of a friend we are to other people. We are all surrounded by pest, guest, and best friends. We should always strive to be the best friends, that we can be. Also, as the saying goes, "You can’t use your friends and have them too." We should appreciate and value all friendships that come into our lives, no matter how deep or superficial. We should always remember that all best friends started out as just acquaintances.

There are also many websites dedicated to this past time which educates the general public as well as new hackers to the game.
